In public

Ideas and evidence, outside the repository.

Prismatic Labs takes its work into public, where other people can question it. This is the dated record: engineering talks, published writing, an international exhibition, and two prizes, first place at an AI safety hackathon and an Under-35 award in futures studies.

The subjects move from what can be changed now, inference waste and physical supply chains, to the longer question of how AI infrastructure should relate to the systems it depends on.

Cost as an Attack Surface: Can You Stop a Denial-of-Wallet Attack?

One cheap prompt can trigger an expensive chain of inference, tool calls and retrieval while request volume stays flat. A live attack on a controlled AI endpoint, and the signals that catch runaway computation before budget caps force an outage.

Slow, Not Scarce

A letter to the Society for Technological Advancement on Britain’s AI hardware supply chain. Its case is gallium, which the UK AI Hardware Plan never mentions: almost all of it is refined in China, none in Britain. Not rare, but slow to replace. How slow decides when to build, when to stockpile, and when a contract is enough.

Long-term vision

Symbiotic AI

This is what Prismatic Labs is for, over the long run. Vetch is the instrument we ship now. Symbiotic AI is the architecture we think the industry has to reach.

AI cannot run without the planet’s minerals, energy, and water. Those systems get little or nothing back. If anything, extraction often harms them. Symbiotic AI names the opposite: degrading a watershed, a grid, or a material supply would reduce the model’s capacity to operate. The biosphere stops being a reporting line and becomes a party in the system.

AI bound to the systems it depends on, rather than extracting from them.

First public statement

Convegno di Futures Studies 2026

Oltre gli orizzonti. Sguardi sul lungo termine

Where. Italian Institute for the Future, Naples.

When. 25 September 2026, Panel 8.

Language. Italian. The English name of the idea is symbiotic AI.

Recognition. One of three Under-35 prizes for the best talks at the Convegno, awarded by Fondazione IIF on 15 October 2026.

The HCI literature already uses “symbiotic AI” for human-machine collaboration. This usage is different: the coupling is between the machine and the biosphere.

Virtual Water

Computer Vision Foundation Art Gallery · Denver

A single lettuce leaf that cost real water to generate and will never be eaten. The piece applies the idea of virtual water, the water embedded in producing a good, to generative AI.

Shown alongside 114 works from 3 to 7 June 2026.

Invite a talk

Two talks, adapted to the room.

Available for meetups, conferences, panels, and internal engineering sessions. Both start from work we built and can show.

Now · For engineers

Physical AI, in production

From wasted inference to gallium, grid bottlenecks, and where data centres are built. Using Vetch, Culm, and the UK compute maps, the talk asks where a dependency is concentrated and how long replacement would take. The answers lead to different controls: build, hold, recover, require portability, or waste less. For engineers, it ends with code, thresholds, and a runbook.

The destination · For anyone thinking longer

Symbiotic AI

The long-term vision of Prismatic Labs: how to couple a model’s operation to the natural systems that feed it. For futures, policy, design, and engineering audiences.
